5 W Poems consists of 5 simple lines. With the structure of:
Line 1: Who or what is the poem about?
Line 2: What it is going to happen
Line 3: When does the activity take place
Line 4: Where does the action take place?
Line 5: Why does this action happen?
This form of poetry can be suitable for children to learn their 5 W Poems or people of any age to write just for fun. It is a great way to play with words and produce a wonderful short poem. Those sort of poems is a good way to teach children to indicate and focus on the five W’s of a tale or an event. This is a type of poem which answers the 5 questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? The poem does not rhyme. I have written examples of my own. I hope you enjoy reading it and should try to write one your self!
The example below display the 5W method
Earthquake
Earth is violent, breaking hearts
Shattering lives furiously
Where the land is fragile
My soul was fast asleep
There is a larger force than us
